On the fourth
day of June 1973, a group of 16 people applied for recognition as the
Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the EDP Auditors Association, Inc. The
group had been meeting informally since April and by June had enough
members (16 although only 12 were needed) and enough money to pay the
application fee. At this time there was only one chapter of the EDP
Auditors Association, Inc. the Los Angeles chapter. Cincinnati and Chicago
were busy forming chapters. Chicago's application was processed first,
so the Greater Cincinnati Chapter was officially recognized as the third
chapter of the association. It was much later that the association changed
its name to the Information Systems Audit and Control Association, ISACA®.
The chapter has never been an exclusive group. It has always
encouraged outreach to the security, accounting, and computer
communities. We have jointly sponsored seminars with organizations
such as the Institute
of Internal Auditors and the Information Systems Security Association.
The chapter has always encouraged student members and taught
study groups for Certified Information System Auditor™ candidates.
Members have also
volunteered their time creating the CISA® exam, writing articles
for the Information Systems Control Journal®, and participating in
the politics
of the national organization.
Will the chapter change in the coming years? We hope
so. We also hope that we have the vision and energy to maintain
the chapter's vitality and important role in the profession.
